Foggy Bottom Coffee House is unique in that we buy our coffee green from farms and co-ops around the world through an importer. It’s kind of exciting when we get a load of beans in. I’m thinking, “This stuff has come straight from the farm in Colombia, Costa Rica, Sumatra, Ethiopia, Kenya, etc.”

All roasting, blending, and flavoring is done right here in the shop to create signature coffee drinks. Coffee’s flavor profile continues to develop for a few after roasting. Its peak flavor will be the first couple weeks after roasting, which is when we share it with all of you.

Fresh roasted coffee tastes brighter, cleaner, richer than stuff that has done by a large commercial roaster who then warehouses it until it sells. Ever check the “Use By” date on coffee in the grocery store? Yikes. It’s the same stuff they’re using in the coffee shops.

I mean, canned peaches are alright. Nothing wrong with them, but given a choice I’d take the peaches just off the tree. It’s the same with coffee. Fresh roasted coffee beans preserved coffee every time regardless of the logo on the bag or can.
