FoggyBottom Coffee House

Welcome!

Located just 2 minutes east of downtown Dexter, Michigan, we’re an independent shop so we do the independent thing and create our own coffee rather than resell somebody else’s stuff. We buy the beans green and then roast and blend them right in the shop. Whether it’s a light, medium, or dark roast, we brew it strong, chock full of flavor. Puts hair in places you didn’t even know you had places.

The Foggy Team

ANNA
Anna is originally from Phoenix but moved to Dexter three years ago to pursue a carier in law. However, she had no interest in law, so decided to pursue stand up comedy. She's working on her first HBO deal but until then, you'll find her here at Fogggy Bottom making you smile.
CANDICE
When Candice tried to teach me (her dad) natural horsemanship, it was all flop sweat, flying dirt, and iron hooves pedaling the air. The horse and I were screaming in unison. With Candice, the horses all but wet themselves to do what she wants. I don’t get it. She’s smaller than me. But now, I’m thinking that Candice always gets what she wants from me too. Somewhere along the line I might have been trained. Hey wait a minute, when did I start wearing this bridle?
CHRIS
Gilligan’s Island had The Professor. Foggy Bottom has Chris. He can figure anything out and fix it. The Professor made telephones out of coconuts and a vine. Chris made the next generation iPhone using a day-old bagel and used coffee filter. If you have a question, ask Chris. If he doesn’t know it, he’ll figure it out. Vene, vidi, vici man.
LARRY
Accomplished musician, math-genius, and Fair Trade coffee roaster. You gotta give this guy a lot of credit. I mean, he works for me, his Dad (pause to reflect). Right. He’s strong. Hilarious to the point of pants-wetting.  This summer Larry parks his car, cancels the insurance, and buys a bike. He’s riding (oh, I’m guessing) 30 miles or more a day between school, friends, and giving lessons. Takes the money he saves and invests it. Cracks me up. We should all be doing this. Bet the price of gas would drop like a rock.
CATHERINE
Somebody told me that when Catherine first started pole vaulting, she couldn’t hardly hold the pole much less vault over her own shoe laces. It had to have been discouraging, but I don’t know. I never heard her complain. A couple of years later, they have to give her a special Kevlar suit with space shuttle tiles so she doesn’t burn up on re-entry. Giving up: Catherine doesn’t get it.
KEVIN
If Terry Pratchett and DaVinci ever had a kid, it’d turn out something like Kevin – an organic blend of art and imagination.  Kevin always has a good idea stewing in the bowels of his creativity. I like off-the-wall stuff and Kevin feeds my need. He once made some kind of a robo-dragon-Blades of Glory figurine out of food scraps and toothpicks. Scared the bejeebers out of me when I turned on the walk-in light. Funny, haha.
ED
This guy plays rugby. Judas Priest, I suppose if gangland wars ever became a sport it might rival the ferocity and bloodletting of rugby. Yet, to talk to Ed you get the impression that he’s perfectly normal. He’s considerate, kind, respectful, and always has a good story to tell. When he’s finished telling it, if you’re holding the ball he’ll hit you like a Mack truck.
SARAH
Sarah would tell you if you had a booger hanging out of your nose. She cares. If her brother Chris is The Professor from Gilligan’s Island, then Sarah could be Mary Ann – helping people make the best of whatever island they’re marooned on that day. All that’s missing is her riding an oversized bamboo bicycle to do everyone’s laundry.
CAROLINE
She’s the new kid and almost through her first hazing trimester. All we really know at this point about Caroline is that she is really, really nice and can throw back a shot of espresso like a pro from day one. Our kind of gal. Stay tuned. More to come.
FELECIA
Feleica also works with kids at camp on weekend retreats. I think she’s nuts, or good-hearted. We recently had our Foggy Bottom picnic (at Jackie’s) and Felecia planned the games. The filth and soiling escalated into one climatic event she called Crud Wars. After we scraped the peanut butter off our face and flushed the sawdust out of our shorts, I looked around at the still laughing group and realized, “Gosh, we really like each other.”  Felecia’s magic.
JACKIE
When Jackie’s not in the shop, the regulars always ask, “Where’s Jackie?” They come in looking for her. Even across the counter they know she cares. You can tell it right off when you talk to her, which brings up another thing. Jackie has a cool British accent. I’ve been trying to mimic it for almost three years now. I’ve learned two things: 1) The peculiar phrases the British use when they don’t like being mimicked, and 2) We’d all be lost without Jackie.
DOUG
I own the place, but I’m seldom in charge. I think the world of these folks.
