FoggyBottom Coffee House

Welcome!

Located just 2 minutes east of downtown Dexter, Michigan, we’re an independent shop so we do the independent thing and create our own coffee rather than resell somebody else’s stuff. We buy the beans green and then roast and blend them right in the shop. Whether it’s a light, medium, or dark roast, we brew it strong, chock full of flavor. Puts hair in places you didn’t even know you had places.

Active ImageA Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Deputy came in a few days ago and our chit chat got onto the subject of cop shows on TV. He has no use for them. They’re all fake, even “COPS.” The thing he doesn’t like about “COPS” is the absence of personality among the officers. “As soon as you put a camera on them,” he says, “they keep everything real careful. It’s not staged, but yet not quite real life either.”

I’m thinking about the little bit of “COPS” I’ve watched. He’s right of course. But then again, I’m impressionable.

“You wanna know the best cop show on TV?” he asks.

“What’s that?”

“Reno 911.”

He waits for my reaction. The thought of getting arrested if I answer wrong starts skittering around in the back of my skull. I’m suddenly nervous and my voice comes out just a little bit higher, “Are you serious?”

“Absolutely serious,” he says. “The stuff those cops pull on that show doesn’t really happen, but there are times you can’t help be thinking it.”
Napolean Dynamite comes to mind for some reason. “Sweet.”
He continues. “But a lot of times the lawbreakers are exactly the same. They’re just like the people on the show.”
I’m like Mr. Ed with a Rubick’s Cube here. I’m trying to work it out but it’s slow going since my opposable thumbs are useless.
    He laughs. “I’m not kidding.”
We then volley a few of our favorite Reno 911 scenes back and forth and he’s gone. Mayberry RF Dexter 911.
